Deep ruby and layered, this Shiraz offers dark-berry aromas with a hint of smoke and toast. Blackberry and plum glide over a silky palate, lifted by sour cherry and bramble, with subtle oak spice and a delicate Viognier floral note. Long, smooth and savoury on the finish. Enjoy with roast lamb or venison at 16–18 °C; drink now or mature for 8-10 years.
Winemaker's Comment:
Our 2022 Shiraz is a true expression of carefully nurtured vineyards and precision winemaking. Hand-harvested from vines planted in 2000, the grapes were selected at peak ripeness and vinified with 20% whole bunch fermentation to bring lift and structure. Fermentation peaked at 26°C, allowing for a measured extraction of colour and flavour, before pressing off the skins and completing malolactic fermentation in barrel.
The final blend includes 3% Merlot for added suppleness and mid-palate richness, and 2% Viognier for aromatic lift and elegance. The wine matured for 18 months in a selection of 500L (60%) and 300L (40%) French oak barrels, with 31% new oak adding finesse, 51% second-fill imparting harmony, and the balance in third-fill preserving purity of fruit.
The result is a Shiraz of depth and refinement, offering layers of dark berry fruit, subtle spice, and supple tannins. Crafted with care and respect for both vineyard and vintage, this wine reflects the elegance and power that define Stellenbosch Shiraz.
