The 17th Michelangelo marked another highlight on the 2013 wine calendar.
A panel of 16 judges from 15 countries adjudicated the wines. This year international entries
from other counties, namely Chile, Italy, New Zealand, France, Argentina and Canada were also
Technical Director Sue Van Wyk CWM from Australia commented that the South African Shiraz is
always impressive and this year was no exception.
Only 58 Grand D’Or Medals were awarded to wines with scores of 98% or higher. Only 8 of these
were for Shiraz from a record number of 161 entries.
Stander Maas our winemaker describes the wine as one that is ageing beautifully, and has a
perfect balance and elegance “. This wine shows it can age and still have complexity to stand out
in an extremely strong Shiraz category”
